Tarpaulin Sky (part i, ii)

part ii

Untitled (tarpaulin sky) was a shelter/installation created of cardboard, chalk, tarps, and water. Water dripped from suspended bags, the cardboard walls were covered in stories about the neighborhood I grew up in (narrated by my mother), and tarps with hole punched out of star maps were draped over the structure.

part i

“It Ended and Began at Night” was an installation of tires and tarps representing two distinct nights, the date my father was born and the date he passed away. Each tarp has all of the stars above a certain magnitude in the night sky cut out. Stars that are in constellations were adorned with silver thread. Under the sky on the date of his birth, tires were sewn together and filled with water to create a reflection pool. Under the sky on the date of his death, tires were sewn together and filled with overgrown grass.
